Fly Parrot Fly (--Mike Schindlinger)

Fly, parrot, fly
Up in the morning sky
Float above the ground
So high up, that they can't pull you down

Your children are in danger
So fly off now, to a distant land.
There's a needy, greedy stranger
Don't let yourself fall into his hands.

Because he'll take you off to the big town.
Instead of trees, there's just buildings and cars.
He'll clip your wings to hold you down,
And put you behind iron bars.

So won't you
Fly, parrot, fly
Into the noon-day sky.
Float above the ground
So far up, that they can't pull you down

You used to be so free,
Your laughter echoed through the trees
It was such a sight to see
As you floated there, on the summer breeze.

But where are all the forests now?
Cut for the cattle and burned for the plow.
The city grows, more everyday, so
Fly, away.

Fly, parrot, fly
Into the late-day sky
Float above the ground,
You know I loved to hear your special sounds.

Maybe someday we'll make a place to be
Where the monkey climbs, and the wild bird soars,
Where you can raise your family
So someday my children can laugh with yours.

But now you must
Fly, parrot, fly
Into the evening sky,
Now that your whole day is done,
Must you disappear, into the setting sun?

Now that your whole day is done,
Must you disappear, like the setting sun?
