This article is SO true! I have been experiencing the "mature amazon" for the first time, and finally realized that breeding parrots is a huge mistake. I am not a breeder, and the amazon I have was 5+ years old when I "rescued" him. I see the frustration he is experiencing not having a mate to fly and live in the wild with and create his own baby. I now tell people whenever possible to please stop breeding birds, and not to buy them. Everything I read in this article I have been experiencing...and I feel like one incompetent human! I wish my bird could live in a place that was designed for captive amazons to have a more "real" experience. I know they cannot go into the wild when bred into captivity, but I wish there were places they could go that would "imitate" more closely their true environment. I feel so bad for my amazon. I love him and want him to be happy. [ Reply to This ]
